I Like Movies (the "app") is a movie-tracking and recommendation app operated by Alexandru Crăciun, based in the Netherlands ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who uses the app, anywhere in the world.
What we collect and why
- Account details — your name and email address from Google Sign-In. Used to create and identify your account. We never receive your Google password.
- Things you create in the app — your ratings, reviews, notes, lists, watchlist, friend connections, household membership, and the messages you send to the in-app assistant (including their text and any image you choose to attach). Stored so the app can show them back to you and your friends.
- Photos you add — a profile photo, and any image you attach to an assistant chat. Stored on our server.
- Your country — the country you set, used to show which streaming services carry a title where you are.
- Notification token — a device push token, used only to deliver the notifications you enable.
- Voice messages — when you dictate a message, your phone transcribes the speech using your device's speech service and the app receives only the resulting text. We do not record or store your audio.
- Technical data — your IP address and basic request logs, used to keep the service running, secure, and free of abuse.
- How you use the app — which screens you open and the actions you take (for example rating a title, adding to your watchlist, running a search, or sending an assistant message), tied to your account. Used to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. We never attach the content of what you write — no search terms, note or list text, or message text.
- iPhone waitlist — if you join the waitlist on our website, we store the email address you enter, the consent text you agreed to, the time, and your IP address. Used to send you the notice that the iPhone app is available, at most one follow-up about that launch, and to show that you asked for it. Nothing else is sent to that address. Ask us at the address below to be removed at any time.
We do not access your phone's contacts, and we do not collect location beyond the country you choose.
Legal bases (EU/UK GDPR)
- To provide the app — performance of our agreement with you.
- To keep it secure and prevent abuse — our legitimate interests.
- Notifications, the iPhone waitlist and other optional features — your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- To understand and improve the app — our legitimate interests, using privacy-preserving analytics that hold no free-text content.
Who we share data with
We use a small number of trusted service providers to run the app and this website. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

International transfers
Your data is stored in the European Union. Some of our providers (for example Google, Anthropic, Sentry and Expo) are based in the United States, so providing the app may involve transferring some data there. Where that happens, we rely on those providers' standard data-protection safeguards.
Analytics
This website (ilikemovies.app) uses PostHog to understand how many people visit, where they arrived from, and whether they tap through to Google Play. It runs without cookies: it stores nothing on your device, does not track you across other sites, and does not build a profile that identifies you.
The app uses PostHog to understand which features people use — for example how many titles get rated or added to a watchlist — so we can improve it. These events are tied to your account by a numeric id only; they never carry the content of what you write (no search terms, notes, list names, or message text). You can ask us to stop associating this with your account at any time.
We do not use any of this for advertising and we do not sell it. PostHog processes it for us in the European Union (Frankfurt) under a data-processing agreement.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we permanently erase your account and the data tied to it. Residual copies in encrypted backups are removed on the normal backup rotation (within 30 days). Waitlist addresses are kept until the iPhone launch emails have gone out, then deleted; ask and we remove yours sooner.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export, or delete your data, and object to or restrict certain processing. If you're in the EU/EEA or UK, these are your GDPR rights; if you're in California, we confirm we do not sell or share your personal information. To exercise any right, use the in-app controls or email us (below).
Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account in the app — this permanently erases your account and associated data immediately. If you can't sign in, you can request deletion at our account-deletion page or by emailing us.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Access to our systems is restricted, and the assistant has no ability to act outside the app on your behalf.
Changes
We'll update this page if our practices change and revise the date at the top.
