Western movies: 21 essential films
Weekly collection in the app for the week of September 25, 2026.
The western is the genre America built its myths on and the one the rest of the world took apart. This collection follows it from John Ford's Monument Valley (Stagecoach, The Searchers) and Howard Hawks to Sergio Leone's Italian westerns, the bloodier revisionism of Sam Peckinpah and Robert Altman, and modern heirs from the Coen brothers to Australia's The Proposition.
These 21 films ran as the weekly theme in the I Like Movies Discover tab for the week of September 25, 2026, featuring The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. There are two films each from Leone, Ford, Peckinpah, Hawks, the Coens and Clint Eastwood as director, and one Italian outlier: Sergio Corbucci's snowbound The Great Silence.
