Workers' cinema: 21 films about labor and dignity

Films about work rarely get called a genre, but they form one: strikes and picket lines, factory floors and call centers, the people history books forget. This collection gathers 21 of them, from Chaplin's assembly line to the Dardennes' weekend of door-knocking.

It ran as the weekly theme in the I Like Movies Discover tab for the week of May 1, 2026, timed to May Day, featuring Norma Rae, Martin Ritt's story of a textile-mill union drive. The list crosses continents: Monicelli's Turin, Loach's Newcastle, Cantet's France, Boots Riley's Oakland.
